Pronouns
You must understand and use correctly these pronoun terms.
Pronoun Type Definition
Pronoun A pronoun is a word that takes the place of one or more nouns
and the words that describes those nouns.
Subject Pronoun Subject pronouns replace a noun used as the SUBJECT of
the sentence. (I, they, you, he, she it, we)
Object Pronoun Object pronouns replace a noun used AFTER an action verb or preposition. (me, us, him, them, you, her)
Possessive Pronoun Possessive pronouns DO NOT need an apostrophe.
(mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, theirs)
Antecedent Antecedent of a pronoun is the noun to which the pronoun
refers.
Example:
Mary has a new surfboard. She took it to the beach.
Mary is the antecedent to the pronoun she.
