Short Story Unit Overview
As defined by Merriam-Webster, a short story is a "short written story usually dealing with few characters: a short work of fiction". During this unit students will apply a wide range of strategies to comprehend, interpret, evaluate, and appreciate texts. They will be encouraged to draw on prior experience, their knowledge of word meaning and other texts, and differing points of view through whole and small group discussions. This short story unit will allow students to apply their understanding of story elements - character, setting, plot, conflict, and theme.
